The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis

Founded in 1966, The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis was part of a regional theater movement fostered by the desire to find new audiences and fresh opportunities for professional theater outside of the commercial venue of New York. The company is dedicated to the producing an eclectic range of live theater and includes three performance series and a wide range of educational programs for young people and adults. Mainstage productions include repertoire of contemporary, classical, and new dramas, comedies, and musicals. Their WiseWrite program impacts 5th-grade students each year by improving their writing skills and building better self-esteem through writing and seeing plays performed at the WiseWrite Festival. The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis has received numerous Kevin Kline Awards. The company reaches adults and youth through student matinees, docent visits, backstage tours, study guides, as well as their Kids ArtStart and Wise Write programs.

As part of Shakespeare for a New Generation, The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis will produce The Comedy of Errors on their mainstage season. Activities will include student matinees, teaching artist residency program, post-performance talkbacks with the actors, and study guides. The teaching artist residency will include visit to schools twice prior to the performance and once afterwards to deepen the experience. Objectives of this program will include investigating Shakespeare’s language and imagery, examining the use of humor in storytelling, identifying themes in the play, increasing critical thinking and analytical skills, and exploring Shakespeare’s relevance to modern life.
