The Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival
Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival is the official Shakespeare festival of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and provides direct access to a unique aesthetic experience: first-rate professional productions in the context of a summer festival and an academic-year touring program. Its summer season consists of seven full-scale productions, with a central focus on Shakespeare, supplemented by classic and contemporary plays, and children's plays. Since 1992, the company has produced 27 different Shakespeare plays and has entertained more than 700,000 patrons from 50 states. PSF is committed to reaching the widest possible audience, including children, through the staging of professional children's theater; serving as a cultural center for the region by partnering with individuals and community, corporate, governmental, and arts organizations for the greater good; and inspiring an ever-increasing range of artists, artisans, theatergoers, and arts leaders by providing exceptional learning opportunities in language, artistry, and skill-building. The Linny Fowler WillPower Tour provides access to the arts by bringing live, professional productions of Shakespeare's plays to middle- and high-school students through half- or full-day schedules and includes workshops, an 80-minute performance of a Shakespeare play, and a talkback with the acting company giving students the opportunity to anchor their personal connection to Shakespeare and to express their newly expanded thinking.
The Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival will present student matinees of As You Like It and a touring production of Julius Caesar directed by Gina Lamparella, as part of their WillPower education program. The company will provide related educational activities, including workshops, talkbacks, and a study guide. They anticipate reaching 50 schools from Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
