Seattle Shakespeare Company
With the plays of William Shakespeare at its core, Seattle Shakespeare Company engages audiences, artists, and their community in the universal human experience inherent in classic drama through the vitality, immediacy and intimacy of live performance and dynamic outreach programs. As a professional Shakespeare theater that includes a strong educational component, they serve more than 200 schools across Washington State each year. The company offers 200 performances and nearly 100 educational opportunities each year through four branches of programming: an indoor season of four productions; two free outdoor productions each summer in regional parks; extensive education programs; and state-wide touring productions. These programs reach across barriers of income, geography, and education to bring Shakespeare’s plays and classical theater to more than 50,000 people in Washington State annually.
For Shakespeare in American Communities, Seattle Shakespeare Company will tour Othello and Romeo and Juliet (Spring 2014). The company will provide related educational activities, including question-and-answer sessions, workshops, and a study guide. They anticipate reaching 60 schools from Washington.
