Founded in 1991, Seattle Shakespeare Company pursues a mission of opening doors to classical theater for audiences of all ages. Annually, the company as four arms of programming that includes an indoor and outdoor season, regional touring, and educational programs. Artistic Director Stephanie Shine has led the company for 13 years, attracting the most sought-after artists of the region to appear on the company's stages. Seattle Shakespeare Company annually reaches 50,000 people, including 20,000 students, by creating a life-long relationship with classical theater and elevating educational outreach. The company is an ambassador for William Shakespeare for the state of Washington and has been honored by the Seattle Weekly as the best Shakespeare for the people.

As part of Shakespeare or a New Generation, Seattle Shakespeare Company will present touring productions of Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet to schools throughout the state of Washington. A 90-minute chamber production will distill the script to its essential elements appropriate the cast size. They will offer students a glimpse into the theatricality of Shakespeare’s plays by using puppetry and masks. Activities will include a menu of workshops to allow the schools to select the best fit for their classroom and post-performance talkbacks. The fees for participating underserved schools will be drastically reduced.
