Marin Theatre Company

Location:
Mill Valley, CA

Founded in 1966, Marin Theatre Company is a professional theater in the North Bay that produces six shows a season, including provocative new plays by American playwrights in their intimate 231-seat proscenium theater. They are committed to the development and the production of new plays by American playwrights, including at least one world premiere each season, two nationally-recognized annual playwriting awards, readings and workshops by emerging playwrights, and a leader in the National New Play Network. Their numerous educational programs serve more than 6,000 students each year.

As part of Shakespeare for a New Generation, Marin Theatre Company will present student matinees of Othello, directed by Artistic Director Jasson Minadakis with a cast of nine actors. This production will focus on the intimate struggle of power between Othello and Iago. Activities will include pre- and post-performance workshops with teaching artists in the classroom and post-performance talkbacks with the director and cast. The content of these workshops will address the California Content Standards for theater. The program will be free-of-charge to students from ten schools from Marin County and the Bay Area. Three additional schools serving at-risk students will participate in a semester-long residency to fully explore the play and other works by Shakespeare.
