Henley Street Theatre (and Richmond Shakespeare)
Founded in 2007, Henley Street Theatre quickly established itself as one of Richmond’s leading professional theatres, developing a reputation for daring, thought-provoking productions and reaching out to local students through internships in a wide variety of theatrical disciplines. They stand firm in their belief that theatre should be an adventure, and they are constantly in search of new ways to share that adventure with an ever-more-diverse range of audiences. Richmond Shakespeare is best known for producing the annual Richmond Shakespeare Festival at Historic Agecroft Hall, which has been a summer tradition for well over a decade. Richmond Shakespeare’s touring productions have visited 23 states, impacting more than 100,000 students, and additional education programs such as the Bardathon, Festival Young Company and Planet Shakespeare provide training opportunities in Shakespeare for hundreds of public, private, and home schooled students annually.
For Shakespeare in American Communities, Henley Street Theatre (and Richmond Shakespeare) will present a touring production of Romeo and Juliet directed by Artistic Director Dr. Jan Powell. The company will provide related educational activities, including workshops, talkbacks, and a study guide. They anticipate reaching 21 schools from Virginia.
