We are pleased to provide free Shakespeare in American Communities Teacher Toolkits to aid in teaching Shakespeare. This resource is appropriate for grades 6-12 (with emphasis on grades 9-12) and covers subjects from the arts to English and history. No matter what Shakespeare play you are teaching, or what grade level you serve, these materials will be an invaluable resource that you can turn to year after year.
The Shakespeare in American Communities Teacher Toolkit is available to schools free of charge with no shipping fees.
The following is included in the toolkit:
- Why Shakespeare DVD – This short documentary asks what Shakespeare means to different people. Everyone from students recently introduced to Shakespeare to well-known actors like Tom Hanks and Christina Applegate share their connections.
- Shakespeare in our Time DVD – Using excerpts from over 30 films and theatrical productions, this DVD places Shakespeare’s work in historical and literary context.
- An Introduction to Shakespeare audio CD – This resource for teachers provides information and suggestions for effectively teaching Shakespeare, along with monologues and sonnets for discussion.
- Timeline poster – Shakespeare’s life is mapped out with corresponding milestone events in history, science, and culture, providing quick and easy-to-read context.
