Shakespeare in American Communities Phase Two (2004-2005)

Phase Two (2004-2005) began in June 2004 and continued through May 2005. This phase of the initiative brought live theater of the highest caliber to small and mid-sized communities. From Rome, Georgia to Moscow, Idaho; Avon, Connecticut to Belgrade, Montana; Florence, Kentucky to Edinburgh, Indiana; Monaco, Pennsylvania to Armenia, New York; Orleans, Massachusetts to Cuba City, Wisconsin, the Arts Endowment helped to reinvigorate theater presentations and strengthen the arts in communities across the country.

Shakespeare in American Communities: Shakespeare for a New Generation gives high-school and middle-school students in underserved schools and communities throughout the United States exposure to high quality, professional productions of Shakespeare's plays. Participating theater companies received matching grants to help support performances and educational activities in their communities, states, or regions for students form at least ten schools.
