Shakespeare in American Communities Phase Three (2005-2006)
Phase Three (2005–2006) performances began in June 2005 and continued through May 2006.
This phase of the initiative continued to bring live theater of the highest caliber to small and mid-size communities across the United States. From Nome, Alaska, to Navato, California; from Nezperce, Idaho, to Nixon, Nevada; and from New Orleans, Louisiana, to North Haven Island, Maine, the Endowment helped to reinvigorate theater presentation and strengthen the arts in communities across the country.
Shakespeare in American Communities: Shakespeare for a New Generation gives high-school and middle-school students in underserved schools and communities throughout the United States exposure to high quality, professional productions of Shakespeare's plays. Participating theater companies received matching grants to help support performances and educational activities in their communities, states, or regions for students form at least ten schools.
